Born at the Cité internationale, the Choir has been bringing together campus residents and non-residents, students and working people, beginners and more experienced musicians for several decades, in a spirit of openness, benevolence towards others and love of music. Rich in this cultural mix and in the privileged setting of the Cité internationale, it welcomes every year, after auditioning, about a hundred amateur singers who wish to practice or discover choral singing.
The Choir has brought me into contact with alumni, residents and local people I would never have met. I gained confidence in my voice and my musical skills. Achieving musical quality and friendship between male and female singers is an ongoing process that has taken years.
The Choir of the Cité internationale explores varied and eclectic repertoires ranging from works of the great repertoire to lesser-known pieces of sacred or secular music, opera arias, popular songs from all countries and jazz covers. He has also been able to tackle contemporary creations by collaborating with composers such as Camille Pépin.
The Choir has been involved in the realisation of major musical works such as Verdi’s Requiem, Jenkins’ Armed Man Mass, Jonathan Dove’s Monster of the Labyrinth, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and the Monster Concert with the orchestra Les Siècles conducted by François-Xavier Roth.
The Choir regularly takes part in large-scale projects in association with prestigious institutions and renowned orchestras. Over the last ten years, it has collaborated with the Philharmonie de Paris, the Orchestre symphonique et lyrique de Paris, the Collège des Bernardins, the Orchestre et Chœur du Lycée Louis-le-Grand and Les Siècles.
