The sun stone

The sun stone was discovered on 17 December 1790 near the Plaza Mayor, not far from what is now the National Palace. It measures 3.60 metres in diameter and weighs almost 25 tonnes. It is thought to have been sculpted in the 15th century, but the mystery surrounding this monumental work of art continues to linger. In 2006, Mexico House acquired a replica of this emblematic work of Aztec art, which has been placed in its garden.
