Hubert Ducou Le Pointe

Interview with the Director of the Maison des provinces de France

Tell us about your background and your arrival at the Cité internationale.

A radiologist working at the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris and a professor at the Sorbonne, I have been involved in international relations since the beginning of my career. My roles at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris are an extension of my commitments and actions.

What do you think it is that makes the Cité internationale a unique campus in the world?

The Cité internationale offers its residents the opportunity to open themselves up to other cultures, to study in a place conducive to work, the development of knowledge and personal fulfilment. What’s more, the Cité is a peaceful haven in a megapolis, whose architecture mixes classical and modern and where it is possible to profit from daily cultural and sportive activities.

How does living in your house allow residents to have a different outlook on the world and how is it a spring board for their futures?

The events are organised by the residents’ committee and the places of conviviality allow the house’s residents to meet each other and interact with other students who have different or similar academic interests. The diversity of languages, knowledge, experience, cultures and backgrounds allows everyone to widen their horizons concerning the world and its challenges.

If you had to sum up the Cité internationale in one word, what would it be and why?

For me, humanism is the most symbolic word of the Cité Universitaire. The Cité, according to the desires of its founders, is a place that is open to the world, interactions, knowledge, learning and culture. It allows each resident to freely find personal fulfilment and to open their range of possibilities with respect to others.
