Conceived in the context of the inter-war peace movement, the Cité internationale was created to become a “school of human relations for peace”. The project of the Cité internationale was to give deep and lasting roots to peace. It was to create a place where young people from all over the world would learn to live together and, on returning to their own countries, would maintain lasting ties that would foster friendship between peoples. Although a century old, this utopia remains fully relevant today. We remain faithful to the spirit of our founders: a campus conceived as a place of exchange, of mixing and of promoting the values of progress and peace. To achieve this objective, we offer our 12,000 students and researchers the opportunity to experience living together in an international atmosphere.
Diversity is at the heart of our values. The Cité internationale has always cultivated excellence but also sharing and tolerance. The international students and researchers we host come from a variety of backgrounds and bring different perspectives, and we are convinced that this diversity nurtures creativity and is a source of exchange and collective progress for the world of tomorrow. We want everyone, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age or disability, to feel welcomed and valued.
The Cité internationale is a place that mixes all backgrounds and nationalities in a unique way, a true ode to tolerance, multiculturalism, but also to creation. The residents want to share and get involved, through projects that are like them: unique and collaborative.
The Cité internationale is not a university residence “like any other”. Everything is done in the houses to encourage living together and cultural diversity.
Discover the portraits of those who imagined the Cité internationale at the end of the First World War. Whether public officials or philanthropists, they were the bearers of an ideal of peace.
Thanks to the mix of nationalities in each house, our students live in a totally cosmopolitan environment.
Every two years, we organise a week of debate on the major challenges to peace. This is an opportunity for the 12,000 or so residents living on campus and the general public to debate with researchers and personalities.
We encourage the involvement of our students and researchers in cultural programming, in the organisation of campus life or in collaborative projects.
In order to attract and retain our talents, we are committed to valuing the role of each individual, strengthening commitment and encouraging innovation and initiative, all with a constant concern for optimising skills and exchange. To achieve this, we build a relationship with our employees based on fairness and benevolence by offering everyone the opportunity to be trained and to develop their skills.
Nearly 1,000 cultural events are organised each year in the houses. They offer a varied cultural programme: exhibitions, shows, concerts, conferences, etc., which are an opportunity to bring the values of the Cité internationale to life. You can find these events in our online events calendar Citéscope.
