History of the house

The Fondation des États-Unis was constructed to symbolise the Franco-American relationship and to offer a lodging for American students and researchers in Paris. The building is U-shaped and made up of a central section on boulevard Jourdan and two wings on the side of the park.

ANECDOTE

All of Robert La Montagne Saint-Hubert’s frescos, representing the four ages of French art (the Roman period, the mystical period, the renaissance and the classical period) were rediscovered in the Grand Salon in 1994 by the then director. The frescos were restored by a team of experts from the Louvre.

RESIDENTS’ LOUNGE

Located in the basement of the East Wing, the Residents’ Lounge is a relaxing place where residents can gather for a meal made in the kitchen or in the TV corner to watch a movie, a sporting event, or the news.
RESIDENTS’ PATIO

Exiting by the door of the lounge, this outdoor space can be used for BBQs on nice days (reservation 48h in advance at reception or by Thursday for the weekend).
LIBRARY

Residents have 24/7 access to a beautiful library on the ground floor, where they also have wifi access. The library is occasionally reserved for events (filming, readings…).
COMPUTER ROOM

The small Library holds several computers and a printer/copier. Print cards can be purchased at Reception. Paper is not supplied.
GRAND SALON

The Grand Salon, which hosts the cultural season at the FEU, is also regularly rented for professional events. Decorated by a beautiful series of frescoes by the Franco-American artist Robert La Montaigne Saint Hubert, it also has a Steinway concert piano and opens up onto the rose garden of the FEU.
PETIT SALON

The Petit Salon is an Art Deco meeting space, next to the Grand Salon, where residents can meet for group projects unless it is rented, or reserved as the backstage for concerts and performances.
SALON CHICAGO

The Salon Chicago is next to Reception. This room is also available to residents except when it is rented or reserved.
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM

A space where Resdientq’ Committee can organize yoga classes, dance classes etc… The room is also availbale for residents projects (such as rehersal).
MUSIC STUDIOS

Two soundproofed and completely refurbished music studios can be reserved for time slots of 2 hours. They each have a piano.
ART GALLERY

From October to June, the gallery hosts exhibitions, mostly by alumni and resident artists. The openings take place on the first Wednesday of every month as part of Art-Hop-Polis.
COMMUNITY GARDEN

The community garden is reserved for the residents’ gardening group and volunteers who deposit the compost collected in the kitchens.
SHARED KITCHENS

Each floor is equipped with communal kitchens with a sink, stove, oven, and microwaves. The recycling and trashcans are also in the kitchens.

LAUNDRY ROOM

The laundry room is self-serve and accessible in the basement of the West Wing 24/7. It is managed by an external company.

Every house runs thanks to a professional and dedicated team. Whether they are a receptionist, planning manager, cleaner, maintenance or security personnel, everyone is committed to ensuring that your stay is as smooth as possible.

THE RESIDENTS’ COMMITTEE

The campus is yours so take part in organising its social and cultural life! Every year residents are elected within their house. They take care of the life there and represent students concerning the house’s administration. We also encourage our residents to engage in collective projects and in the organisation of cultural and artistic events.
