The first residence built at the Cité internationale in 1925, the Fondation Deutsch de la Meurthe was the fruit of a meeting between Paul Appell, a mathematician who became the chancellor at the Université de Paris and Émile Deutsch de la Meurthe, a wealthy industrialist from Lorraine who made his fortune in mineral oils and who, together with his brother Henry, created Pétroles Jupiter, which would become the Shell group in 1948.
The Fondation’s garden preserves the remains of the last Parisian fortifications, built by Adolphe Thiers under Louis Philippe. It is a stone belonging to bastion 82, built in 1842.
Thanks to its 43 houses, the Cité internationale offers a rich cultural and artistic program to all audiences : concerts, screenings, conferences, exhibitions, shows…
Discover them in our cultural agenda CitéScope.
Every house runs thanks to a professional and dedicated team. Whether they are a receptionist, planning manager, cleaner, maintenance or security personnel, everyone is committed to ensuring that your stay is as smooth as possible.
The campus is yours so take part in organising its social and cultural life! Every year residents are elected within their house. They take care of the life there and represent students concerning the house’s administration. We also encourage our residents to engage in collective projects and in the organisation of cultural and artistic events.
