Two Indian architects, J. M. Benjamin and H. R. Laroya, designed the Maison de l’Inde. Since its creation in the 1960s, the house has played an important role in the diffusion of Indian culture in Paris. In 2013, an adjacent pavilion was built to the east of the first.
In 2019, thirteen houses at the Cité internationale celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, whose life and philosophy of tolerance and non-violence inspired the world.
Thanks to its 47 houses, the Cité internationale offers a rich programme of cultural and artistic events for all ages, as well as debates on the major issues facing the world today: concerts, screenings, lectures, exhibitions, shows… Find out more in our Citéscope cultural calendar.
Every house runs thanks to a professional and dedicated team. Whether they are in charge of hospitality, planning, cooking, cleaning, maintenance or security, they are all committed to making sure that your stay in the building goes smoothly.
The campus is yours so take part in organising its social and cultural life! Residents are elected within your house every year. They take care of the organisation and representation of residents with the building’s administration. We also encourage resident engagement in collective projects and in the organisation of cultural and artistic events. The Maison de l’Inde’s Residents’ Committee is made up of 7 to 8 members. These members organise the house’s cultural, intellectual and social life, support new and ill or distressed residents and help the house’s management and administration to communicate with other residents.
