History of the house

The Fondation Avicenne, built in 1969 by Claude Parent and André Bloc, in association with the Iranian architects Hedar Ghiai and Mossem Foroughi, marked the end of the Cité internationale’s second post-World War II construction period. Initially known as the Maison de l’Iran, it was transferred to the Cité internationale in 1972 and renamed as the Fondation Avicenne, in honour of the great 11th-century Persian physician and philosopher.

The Fondation Avicenne, a true architectural icon, is a benchmark of 20th-century metal architecture. The project underwent numerous modifications and owes much to the experimental house at Cap d'Antibes that Parent and Bloc were designing at the same time. It is the tallest building in the Cité internationale, rising to 38 meters.

Upcoming events

Thanks to its 43 houses, the Cité internationale offers a rich program of cultural and artistic events and debates on the major issues facing the contemporary world: concerts, screenings, lectures, exhibitions, shows… Find out more in our CitéScope cultural calendar.

A DEDICATED AND PROFESSIONAL TEAM

Every building runs thanks to a professional and dedicated team. Whether they are a receptionist, planning manager, cleaner, maintenance or security personnel, everyone is committed to ensuring that your stay is as smooth as possible.

THE RESIDENTS’ COMMITTEE

The campus is yours so take part in organising its social and cultural life! Every year residents are elected within their building. They take care of the life there and represent students concerning the building’s administration. We also encourage our residents to engage in collective projects and in the organisation of cultural and artistic events.
