In France, most income must be declared to the Taxation Department of the State Treasury.
In May 2011, whether you have been paid a salary or not, remember to file your 2010 tax declaration with the taxation office of your place of residence, to declare your salary or scholarship income.

In France, filing a tax declaration does not necessarily mean that income taxes have to be paid. The declaration is used to assess the percentage of local taxes you need to pay if you rent an apartment. Failure to file a declaration may result in serious administrative difficulties.
