THE VICTOR LYON FOUNDATION

HISTORY

Pure, simple lines

The Victor Lyon Foundation, opened in 1950, bears the name of the donor who financed it. Lucien Bechmann, the architect who designed the Deutsch de la Meurthe Foundation some 25 years earlier, was in charge of this building as well, and for it he created a clean-lined, four-storey, red brick edifice that contrasts with the picturesque style of the 1920s and 30s. Some of its features, such as the roof-top terrace, are characteristic of modern architecture. The entire building was renovated in 1999.

Did you know?
The interior design was as carefully thought out as the architecture, as can be seen in the steel carpentry in the large hall or the painting by Jean Dries.
Overlooking the park

The Victor Lyon Foundation opens onto a garden with a small tower, the perfect place to relax at the tables and chairs provided. From the garden there’s a lovely view of the Cité internationale’s park, which, combined with the terrace and the large windows in the hall, creates a strong connection between the building and its surroundings.

The International Centre for Short Stays

The Victor Lyon Foundation together with the André Honnorat and Robert Garric Residences form the International Centre for Short Stays (CICS). Its goal is to encourage exchanges and meetings between residents from all over the world, whatever their origins, language or culture. The Foundation hosts students, teachers and researchers who are staying between three days and ten months. Residents are selected upon an application detailing their university career, their ambitions and their revenue.
